As you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Recently my childhood friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her story was compelling to me, not only because of our childhood relationship, but because of the commonality between us. We are both career driven mother’s and wives in our late 20’s with a full life ahead of us. Needless to say, when I heard of her diagnosis I was heartbroken. Although I have not spoken with her directly, I have seen through social media that she is fighting for her life with dignity and grace, as she continues to strive for greatness as a well sought after makeup artist and highly involved mother. As we are halfway through Breast Cancer Awareness month, I urge all mothers to take a moment to give yourself a self breast exam. Self exams should not only include the breast, but the neck and armpit as well. Also, ask your partner or close friend or family member to check your back.
